Portfolio Hats:

Over the past 9 years, there’s been a lot of headwear development through Yew.
Research remains a constant in my studio, I’m always learning new methods and sewing techniques to augment my products.

Recently I published a portfolio of my creative works.
The portfolio includes (5) great shapes I have developed over the years.
These patterns can be considered my flagship designs.

LEVI’S INTO BUCKET HATS:

This project reclaimed (10) pairs of Levi Strauss denim.
The purpose was to imitate the familiarity of everyone’s classic Levi’s jeans.
Denim has a great heavyweight feel providing sweet comfortability and great shape.

fronts of each hat contain the garment patch, either in leather or jacron.
backs feature a functional, Levi’s double-stitched back pocket.
sides contain signature Levi’s garment tab.
sweatbands are reclaimed using original waistband.
linings feature unique floral prints with functional zippered stash pouch.
belt loop to holster zipper-head & to hang on hooks.
stitching mimics original garment with red accents.

Helly Hansen:

Reclaimed using (3) Helly-Hansen Helly-Tech Winter Jackets.
These 90’s Helly-Tech jackets were sitting in my stash collecting dust.
There were so many prime HH features on the jackets I made two styles per.
Each hat was re-lined using a lightweight fleece to keep you warm in the Alps.

Helly-Tech Rubberized Patch,

Interior Helly-Tech Woven Label,

H/H Bucket Hat:

Alchemist Set:

Designed this set of (3) hats for the Alchemist during his visit to Halifax.
I reached out to the show promoter to pass over the gift.
But I’m pretty sure he snaked me and kept the hats…
AND the products never landed on Al’s head.

Waxed beige canvas exterior,
Egyptian cotton striped liner,
Stitched ALC logo outline,
White 5mm eyelets,

Yewis Vuitton:

A client asked if I could turn his vintage Louis Vuitton shoulder bag into a hat.
Of course, I said yes.

Dismantling the bag was half the battle. Dried glue and a deteriorated liner occupied my entire workspace. By the end, there wasn’t much leather to work with, and every inch of it was used for assembly.

The toughest part of this job was aligning the LV print so each hat panel transitioned appropriately. I then had to utilize the accent leather stripes and the embossed leather emblem.

I then chose a sandstone cotton liner to color-match the accent leather and finished the hat seams with dark brown bias tape.

Columbia PFG:

The Cast Master: Utility Bucket Hat.

Reclaimed using Columbia PFG button-down shirts.
These hats have everything you need for your trip to the lake.

Utilizing everything from the original garment - was a great way to maximize details.
Each hat has pockets on either side and a pocket on the detachable flap.
The detachable flap works by using the button-down as the sweatband.
To provide extra protection and maximum style, an extra wide ‘duck-billed’ brim fits the bucket.
