Completely Cubed

I’ve been on a big creative curve lately to try and publish as much as I can.

So I was going through some old files and came across an attempt to create perfect, symmetric letters of yew. The file was trash, and my skills had improved, so I did some touch ups, straightened some lines, worked with some old and new colour tones.

Each letter is perfect cube, they line up real good, stack real well, and thats about it because at the end of the day it’s just a cube.

some nice yew cubes, some nice colour palettes to boot.

the cubes got into my stash, again. some feathering, blurring and warping mane.

what is it about paisleys?

something about the shape and designs can be mesmerizing.
one of the oldest dating ornaments, this shape is know as a Boteh in Persian, also has been dated back to the 9th century which further promotes is fashionable statement.

notably found on expensive carpets, fine silks, and rare rugs, how more suitable to find it on a custom series of hats, limited to those worthy of its powers imbued.

a friend of mine, Kevvo, a long supporter of my hat-cause, had previously purchased multiples of my designs from early on. so I invited Kev to come into the studio and pick out his own new hat, as well as a full collection to boot.

this fabric here is one i found a long time ago, when yew first begun.
back in 2016 i think a few of these were made to pass out to friends of mine.
and in 2018 while living in Australia, about another 10 were constructed, more than likely
of superior quality than the originals previously assembled as a sewing noob.

this hat was designed in the winter of 2018, for the specific reason of keeping your melon toasty.
these velour hats are sure to keep any noggin’ nice and warm.

textile 1 : an off-white velour base, with indigo, chestnut and black watercoloured streaks

this hat comes in 4 variations, where each panel becomes the substitute for the next,

found at a thrifting pop-up, sick, classic hipster pick-up line bud.

but seriously, it's honestly pretty slick.

real cool, medium weight, faded purple dyed Patagonia denim longsleeve.

alas, it had to be repurposed, because it was a chicks, and I'm a dude, and now it's a recycled yewnisex hat for all, well just one, because there will only ever be, just, one.

Trippy Mane

made this graphic about two years ago now, always really enjoyed it.

cleaned it up a little and played around with some color schemes, always fun to go back to old designs and polish things up.

was always hoping that this graphic could make it on some apparel, maybe some screen prints over this winter perhaps would be in order, yes, yes, its all coming together now.

anyhow, this was me trying to give ‘YEW’ a tripped out vibe, sort of hit i i thought, kind of spooky too. lil spook, lil steez.

wolves, who isn’t a fan?

perhaps one of the most majestic creatures to grace us in this world.

canis lupus, canis l’yewpus.

there are two fabrics used in this creation.

firstly, what are wolves? well this was already established prior, majestic.

wolves have long coats of fur, which makes them; secondly, soft.

this is why at yew supply co, we carry suede-like, plush textiles to completely customize any hat what ever the circumstance, and in this case to coordinate the grandeur of a wolf pelt.

this is what you would call a super rare fabric, holographic if it could, if you would.

donated to me by one of the sweetest ladies i’ve met in my life, who originally used the fabric to make pillows for children in need. thus, with the little amount that was given to me, two hats were created.

Thanks for stoping by for another design talk;

pondered by many scholars and philosophers throughout the middle ages, and the occasional modern day dingdong in the belief that the Earth was flat. well they were incredibly wrong, we all know that - it’s not something too new, yew?

but is the Earth spherical, is it round? Well before Columdingus sailed the ocean blue for North America, Aristotle along with his other Greek scholar homies theorized the globe, if you will, to be round. Newton further ran some tests to suggest the Earth was more of an oblate spheroid, still round, but the ol’ gal got some chunk at the equator, because its’ poles are being boot stomped by space rapidly spinning our blue marble.

the Earth, the World, and even Space, man, it’s pretty complex, so how does it make sense that we can just be a dang spheroid? so, Dan, what are you going on about here? i’m not really sure either, but it came to me in a trip:

we live in a multi dimensional lemniscate earth, where multiple replicates of earth continuously interject and interfere, as well as augment a singular yew; otherwise known as the yewniverse.

It’s Tuesday, my favourite day to blog yo!

because on tuesday, yew get to find out more about the hats i, zamboni jabroni, create.

so what happens when yew’re thrifting around the local value village and ya come across a curtain; one can only assume was own by a 1980s steezlord. yew buy it, and you turn it into an amazing limited released hat drop.

this was a super fun project. heaps and heaps of thus said curtain was purchased and dismantled into its raw original fabric form. there was enough material to create a set of 15 up-cycled pre-owned curtain hats.

a quite neutral beige cotton/polyester blend, with snazzy accented, multi-coloured brush strokes. homies, were talking teal, we got dat magenta, hit em with the crimson red, dashes of orange, streaks of white, blotches of black, oh and if you look close enough, there’s some splatters of gold. like seriously, what absolute beauty had this gnarly thing draped in his foyer?

with the original Yew woven label on the front panel, black 4mm eyelets, and the ykk slide adjuster to close the hat. 15 hat’s were created, each and everyone were completely yewnique to the colour of their swatches, tis’ now just an old memory as they no longer exist on any shelf and currently reside on 15 beautiful human minds.

Hand Gestures

back when i used to be drawing more often, back when i didn’t even know what illustrator was, back when i used to be travelling around, back when i used to be the feller i was then, i was actually sketching quite a bit there then.

any how, back in 2016 i found myself leeching wi-fi at an amazing library in Wellington, New Zealand. back when i was sketching like i was saying earlier, i sketched out a series of common hand gestures. these were quite detailed sketches, maybe something to be proud of yew know? got em all sketched out, and then hit them with some watercolours.

years later, i learned to make vector files and expanded my mind into digital. so these sketches were then imported and rendered and did some cool little edits to the finger nails to void them out. put in a repeated graphic in the background and boom!

Violets are Yew

Welcome back to another hat explanation!

This one dates back to 2017 and was released in the spring as part of a week long floral tribute to celebrate the season.

Only one was designed, with the possibility of a few more with the little amount of fabric left over.

A completely lightweight sport material, deep navy polyester, with miniature floral print, red roses, pink and white daiseys, and of course yew violets. With the signature OG yew woven label on the front panel, and white 4mm eyelets on the sides, and custom matching plastic clip closure.

Just writing this intrigues me to re-use the rest of this fabric, so if it also sparks your interest send me a message for first dibs.
