yew, yew, yew & yew

I apologize for the lack of content, but sometimes hat-making can get quite exhausting - both physically and mentally. So I had the opportunity to travel to the Cayman Islands at the start of March with my two top homies Phil and Johnny.

Amongst having one of the greatest times ever, a revolution emerged.

The Pinky Pointer, can be used for pretty near anything you want to put your attention on or direct it towards. The true multi-functional finger. Step aside index finger, your time is over. Point this way, point that way, get his attention, get her attention, their attention, everything is more enjoyable when the pinky gets goin’.

Use is gently, snap it off from the hip firmly, use the top of your thumbs knuckle as a scope and snipe people out, hold your drink and point with it, it’s cool. We don’t know why, but it is easy and very effective to use. Try it out for free, for the first week, and let us know, or if you see me out and need a further explanation, lessons are free.

Look how happy everyone is:

Cast Spells

Thank yew for stopping into the blog zone y’all!

I have a new graphic to share with everyone to cap off the week, I, unfortunately, cannot take full responsibility for this design. A few years back I was coming back from the tail end of a road trip. Had no foresight in booking anywhere to stay so the last resort was a pretty boujee Best Western outside Halifax at a place called Chocolate Lake. They had sick buffalo chicken wings, a pool, and an unreal arcade in the basement of the hotel.

The original graphic was off an old pinball machine that I could imagine was well dated from the ’80s. It was pretty beat up and all the paint was scratched off. I can’t find the old photo as its probably on my smashed up iPhone. So I cleaned up the graphic, edited in sharper lines, moved some things around, added new colorways, and through in some symbolic yew glyphs.

Looks as if buddy in the graphic is casting some sort of spell to control the mind of a kind cobra, assuming some sort of harm to whoever comes his way. I do not condone this sort of violence, so practice spells with the utmost of extreme caution as they can sometimes go south.

Hershey: eat-more

This is a tribute to my favourite chocolate bar, the Eat-More:

Hershey Tribute-01.png

what can yew say about the eat-more, yeah it may look like a doo, but if you look deeper its just chocolate toffee and bits of peanuts, don’t be embarrassed around friends anymore, it’s 2020 no one can say anything about the look of your chocolate bar, man.

aside from its look, yew have to admire the design of the bars’ packaging, it’s so inviting.

boom yellow,

rosey oranges and a field of grass green.

dark toffee peanut chew, what’s a guy to even do?

bold lettering and translation in french,

eat the bar that looks like a piece of poo,

just be

Yabba Dabba

“Barney, what’s the big idea, leaving the bowling ball in the middle of the floor!”

- Fred Flinstone
________________________________

Thanks for checking in y’all, we’re about to get prehistoric!

The Flinstones was always one of my favorite cartoons growing up, was always a riot watching Fred wig out at everyone and how memorable it was whenever Fred gets off work, slides down the brontosaurus’ neck and belts out “Yabba Dabba Doo!”

This is a design I came up with a little while back, very simple and very effective. If yew know me by now, or you’re just tuning in for the first time, it’s too easy to spin things off with yew, thus this design fits perfectly.

Yabba Dabba Yew, created using bones I built in illustrator and assembling them into letters, and using some fun color schemes to go along with it.

Yabba Dabba Yewwwww!

where yew to?

where yew to Jake O’Doyle?

30cm of snow is dropping,

but we’re still gonna get silly,

and send it.

trip out to this why don’t yew

Here’s a design that I whipped up this morning.

Just something a little simple, easy line work, used the stroke tool and hit it with dashed line segments and multi-direction arrowheads, neato color schemes and transparent backdrops.

where Yew to?

let me know what yew think in the comments below

be the best yew today!

Completely Cubed

Ola!

Thanks for dropping by to check out a new, old, design.
I’ve been on a big creative curve lately to try and publish as much as I can.

So I was going through some old files and came across an attempt to create perfect, symmetric letters of yew. The file was trash, and my skills had improved, so I did some touch ups, straightened some lines, worked with some old and new colour tones.

Each letter is perfect cube, they line up real good, stack real well, and thats about it because at the end of the day it’s just a cube.

some nice yew cubes, some nice colour palettes to boot.

another set of nice yew cubes, tried out some new colour palettes on these bais.

the cubes got into my stash, again. some feathering, blurring and warping mane.

Trippy Mane

made this graphic about two years ago now, always really enjoyed it.

cleaned it up a little and played around with some color schemes, always fun to go back to old designs and polish things up.

was always hoping that this graphic could make it on some apparel, maybe some screen prints over this winter perhaps would be in order, yes, yes, its all coming together now.

anyhow, this was me trying to give ‘YEW’ a tripped out vibe, sort of hit i i thought, kind of spooky too. lil spook, lil steez.

Yewniverse

Thanks for stoping by for another design talk;

pondered by many scholars and philosophers throughout the middle ages, and the occasional modern day dingdong in the belief that the Earth was flat. well they were incredibly wrong, we all know that - it’s not something too new, yew?

but is the Earth spherical, is it round? Well before Columdingus sailed the ocean blue for North America, Aristotle along with his other Greek scholar homies theorized the globe, if you will, to be round. Newton further ran some tests to suggest the Earth was more of an oblate spheroid, still round, but the ol’ gal got some chunk at the equator, because its’ poles are being boot stomped by space rapidly spinning our blue marble.

the Earth, the World, and even Space, man, it’s pretty complex, so how does it make sense that we can just be a dang spheroid? so, Dan, what are you going on about here? i’m not really sure either, but it came to me in a trip:

we live in a multi dimensional lemniscate earth, where multiple replicates of earth continuously interject and interfere, as well as augment a singular yew; otherwise known as the yewniverse.

peace be with yew.

Hand Gestures

Thank yew for stopping by for another edition of a design explanation.

back when i used to be drawing more often, back when i didn’t even know what illustrator was, back when i used to be travelling around, back when i used to be the feller i was then, i was actually sketching quite a bit there then.

any how, back in 2016 i found myself leeching wi-fi at an amazing library in Wellington, New Zealand. back when i was sketching like i was saying earlier, i sketched out a series of common hand gestures. these were quite detailed sketches, maybe something to be proud of yew know? got em all sketched out, and then hit them with some watercolours.

years later, i learned to make vector files and expanded my mind into digital. so these sketches were then imported and rendered and did some cool little edits to the finger nails to void them out. put in a repeated graphic in the background and boom!

here are the sketches and the graphics:

Yo!

It’s Thursday, and that means yew get to check out one of my designs.

Aside from shoutin’ out “yew” - one of my favourite things about starting this brand is using it for puns.

It is especially great for spinning off sporting franchises,

Here is one of many to show yew.

I also suppose if yew know me, I don’t mind partaking in da herb mon.

So check out this design I created a while back, I hope it inspires yew to roll a bat and take off.

YEWNEX

yo, yo, yo, yonex!

Today’s design post was inspired by the sport of Badminton.

Grew up playing a tonne of this sport, and in my opinion could be one of the best sports out there.

Here are a few reasons why:

  • cheap and inexpensive; i mean a tasty, lightweight carbon fibre racket might run you but sometimes it’s worth it to smash the shuttle down your opponent gob. Decent pair of trainers, shuttlecocks are relatively cheap and most gyms can provide the netting.

  • low injury; get a good stretch in, limber up, couple arm windmills and a light rally and you’re into a game. Can go as intense or chilled out as you or your opponent want to giv’r.

  • 2nd most popular sport in the world behind footy.

    Absolutely unreal for your health

Anyways, here’s some badminton related designs I put together this past year:

Lacoste

Welcome back, and thanks for checking in!

This was a fun one to do.

Lacoste has always been a favourite brand of mine.

What I really enjoy doing with this brand is creating pun-like designs.

Here is one of many more spin off graphics in my portfolio.
